lyrics

Emperor Norton sat on his throne
Of rot and generic dreams
Ears were tortured within range
Of his narcissistic screams
“How dare you come and take my bride?
How could she do this to me?
I'll crush you both in days to come
You'll be as miserable as me”

And all the little spiders
Spin webs around his brain
His grandiose delusions
Are all that keep him sane

A Lazarus did the Emperor make
And filled the chalice of a few
But even they soon grew tired
Of his soulless candy coated spew
He could see her with the Spider Lord
Caught in his web, damp with dew
But she looked as if set free
And she wore a smile he never knew

And all the little spiders
Spin webs around his brain
His grandiose delusions
Are all that keep him sane

The Lord of the Spiders walked
The hillside with his maiden fair
To meet Norton in the town
And parlay in the thoroughfare
But the Emperor sprang from his perch
And waved his sword in the air
“Come and kill me if you will
Let them see a victim of despair”

Our hero gained the upper hand
And the Emperor fell to his knees
But the Lord of the Spiders spoke
And stifled his pathetic pleas
“You won't have me to blame for this
Pull yourself up to your feet
Can't you see why you can't win
Your contempt is your disease”

And all the little spiders
Spin webs around his brain
His grandiose delusions
Are all that keep him sane
